The most substantial part is in fact the first half of the ascent of the Col du Coq, on the Saint-Nazaire side. After 6.5 km of climbing, shortly after the tunnels, you have the choice of going left on the D30E, towards the pass, or, if you are already tired or want to do the Petites Roches plateau (or even the Chartreuse balcony as far as La Palud), staying on the D30 towards Saint-Pancrasse and then Saint-Hilaire. In both cases, you'll enjoy magnificent views over the valley.
