Climb might as well have been called 'Puistenbach', because that's what it is: a fat steep pimple in beautiful surroundings. First 500 metres really tough to get over the steep part and then so stone-cold that the rest of the climb feels just as tough. Was in this year's Gran Fondo 3Rides Aachen.
Careful when descending this one, you get 'spit out' (better said 'squeezed out' ) on the busy through road at an emergency speed.
Klim had net zo goed ‘Puistenbach’ kunnen heten, want dat is het: een dikke steile puist in een mooie omgeving. Eerste 500 meter echt afzien om over het steile gedeelte te komen en daarna zo steenkapot dat de rest van de klim net zo zwaar voelt. Zat dit jaar in de Gran Fondo 3Rides Aachen.
Goed uitkijken als je deze afdaalt, je wordt met een noodvaart ‘uitgespuugd’ (beter gezegd ‘uitgeknepen’ ) op de drukke doorgaande weg.
The 14％ sign is somewhat exaggerated or the percentage applies to only a few metres, but there is no denying that it is steep and it starts very soon after passing the bridge. The climb is very popular with cyclists and for good reason because - apart from the really tough percentage - it runs on a winding road with excellent tarmac and through beautiful surroundings.
Due to the closure of the road between Paustenbach and Simmerath in May 2024, the road was "closed" to motorised traffic with traffic lights which made for lovely quiet cycling.
Het bordje 14％ is wat overdreven of het percentage geldt voor slechts enkele meters, maar dat het steil is valt niet te ontkennen en het begint al heel snel na het passeren van de brug. De klim is erg populair bij wielrenners en dat is niet voor niets want - los van het echt pittige percentage - loopt over een bochtig weggetje met uitstekend asfalt en door een mooie omgeving.
Vanwege de afsluiting van de weg tussen Paustenbach en Simmerath was in mei 2024 de weg voor het gemotoriseerd verkeer "afgesloten" met verkeerslichten waardoor het heerlijk rustig fietsen was.
It takes some getting used to coming full throttle from Witzerath and having to turn left up this steep hill :)
Het is ff wennen als je full gas vanuit Witzerath komt en linksaf deze steile puist op moet :)
On our 100km round trip through this area we thought we had seen all the climbs, until we saw this sign. It is not the Widdauer Mauer, but it is steep in the beginning. The difference with most famous climbs in this area is that this one is very quiet. Nice ending if you are on your way to Roetgen as finish for example.
Op onze 100km ronde door deze streek dachten we dat we alle beklimmingen hadden gehad, totdat we dit bord zagen. Het is geen Widdauer Mauer, wel lekker steil in het begin. Het verschil met de meeste bekendere beklimmingen in deze streek is dat deze heel rustig is. Mooie afsluiter als je op weg bent naar Roetgen als finishplaats bijvoorbeeld.
