Ascent completed on 22 July 2023 after the San Pellegrino Pass. The difficulty of the climb is accentuated by the quality of the road surface (the difference between the asphalt in Trentino and Veneto is glaring).
I would like to point out the milestone at the start of the climb.
I tackled it after the San Pellegrino Pass, and it immediately begins with steep gradients and never drops, some sections being quite steep. All the fatigue, however, is abundantly repaid by the descent that follows the summit, thanks to the magnificent views. Recommended only for the most physically prepared.
My 4th climb of the day, after the Lavaze, Costalunga and Sen Pellegrino I would finish the week with the Valles. I've climbed it before from Pannevechio and already noticed it had some nasty sections. The profile didn't lie, to be honest I think it did.
My plan was not to do the climb but after an incident with an Italian driver on the descent of Sen Pellegrino the adrenaline in my system gave me enough reason to keep on climbing. The first kilometer is steep but I rode through it comfortably. The next 3 km were not easy but the heat of the sun on my body was heavier than the steepness. I had started the descent without full bottles and after I handed my bottle to the staff I counted on a full return! No, they thought I wanted to go up the mountain lighter, but after some gestures I got a full bottle.
With fear in my mind I waited for the 14% piece although I hate dismounting I feared the worst, I had already done 3000 hm that day and this could be too much. There was going 14 on my computer and when I saw the last turns in front of me I knew it was over. The last 500 metres are still hard when you think about the summit.
The Valles is not for the faint-hearted, you have to work both ways and fortunately the climb is not very long, actually an ideal climb to go deep and enjoy your performance for a long time. I say just do it!
