Last year we conquered this terrible monster. Made a route during our jersey to Austria-Italy with an unfamiliar climb. The start from Tarvisio is nice, downhill to Pontebba. The profile was firm but doable. The Passo pramollo that splits at the foot has been done by car before and is not very bike-friendly. Then this one as a neighbour to the Zoncolan, down to Tolmezzo and then on to the Sella Nevea. But first this one... Sat in the 2013 Giro from the other side and it's understandable that they never come back! Steep, steep, narrow, gravel bits everything in the climb that makes it tough. You go up in three steps of 18% or more. There is no end to it. At the top, though, good rifusio with snack and drink. Then downhill, normally a party but this time 90% braking and watching out, whole sections of asphalt road, blind turns and steep chasms in the forest. Your hands hurt from braking.
Last stretch is nice though thankfully.
A mountain you can do but advice, ignore it and go straight to the Zoncolan then everyone understands you've suffered.
