The climb is not too steep, not too long and runs nicely. It can be quite busy at times and on the descent you will always have a car, truck or bus in front of you taking the pace out of it. At Madonna di Campiglio, the cars continue through a tunnel and you go by bike through the village. It's quite touristy there so you can forget about that KOM. At the top of the pass, nice views of the 'Adamello Brenta'.

Nothing special then, until you know that Marco Pantani was taken out of the race here in 1999 after a crushing win of the 20th stage of the Giro d'Italia in the pink jersey. The stage to Madonna di Campiglio later turned out to be one of the last spectacles of 'Il Pirata'.
