Millefonts is one of the few climbs so close to Nice and the coast that are over 2000m high. To get there, you first have to climb more than 3/4 of the Col Saint Martin/La Colmiane. So in total, the climb is not 9 km, but 24 km! The first 14.5 km on Col Saint Martin, are not hugely steep and quite good to ride at a pace. Still, you have already covered 930 altitude metres before you get to the turnoff to Millefonts. So even though the last 9 km are only 7％ average, these feel a lot heavier. Also because you're heading towards 2000m anyway, of course. The road surface on Millefonts is a bit worse than on the Colmiane, but fine to prepare. For your feeling, the gradient on Millefonts is often 9/10％. There are a few sections with hairpin bends in it and once you have passed this, the summit is also soon in sight. There you see a car park in the distance and it goes up and down a bit. The summit is a bit disappointing, so it is a car park for hikers to higher up the mountain.
Millefonts is een van de weinige beklimmingen zo dicht bij Nice en de kust die meer dan 2000 m hoog zijn. Om er te komen moet je eerst meer dan 3/4 van de Col Saint Martin/La Colmiane op. In totaal is de klim dus niet 9 km, maar 24 km! De eerste 14,5 km op de Col Saint Martin, zijn niet enorm steil en best goed in een tempo te rijden. Toch heb je al 930 hoogtemeter overbrugt voordat je bij de afslag naar Millefonts komt. Dus ondanks dat de laatste 9 km maar 7％ gemiddeld zijn, voelen deze een stuk zwaarder. Ook omdat je toch al richting de 2000m gaat natuurlijk. Het wegdek op Millefonts is wat slechter dan op de Colmiane, maar prima te bereiden. Voor je gevoel is de helling op Millefonts wel vaak tegen de 9/10％. Er zitten een paar stukken met haarspeldbochten in en als je dit gepasseerd bent, dan is de top ook snel in zicht. Daar zie je in de verte een parkeerplaats en gaat het wat op en af. De top valt wat tegen, het is dan ook een parkeerplaats voor wandelaars naar hogerop de berg.
