Only for the environment already an absolute must. So don't forget to enjoy! The last 5 km are easy to do, even though I would describe them as hard. There is plenty of traffic on the Ofenpass, but I have not experienced that as a nuisance. The road is usually wide and the surface is like a billiard cloth. And for whiskey lovers it may be nice to mention that in Santa Maria 's smallest whiskey bar is located.
Did this climb from Santa Maria as a run up to a gravelride through theVal More that starts just over the top of the Ofen pass and takes you back to Santa Maria. Great wide road but not too much traffic. For the mountain bikers/gravel enthusiasts, there are nice dirt alternatives up to Tschierv that never stray far from the main road. From Tschierv it's a steep but gradual climb of 8-9% with occasional resting moments in the hairpin bends...in the last km it levels off a bit and at the top the coffee is ready. And the gravelride back ... an absolute must, there you really notice how unspoiled nature there is ... into the wild!
Ridden this year during our cycling week. Stage 2 ended in Tschierv, over the Stelvio and then the first part of the Ofenpass. I was happy to be alive so I didn't look around much at the mountains. Next morning start with the last 5 km Ofenpass is not recommended. You are immediately warm though.
