A beautiful and challenging climb that never gives you pause. It is essentially made up of two parts. The first is entirely asphalt, while the second, from the Monte Farno restaurant, is concrete. Both segments can be done with a road bike, but for the second, given the gradients that touch 20%, it is best to have very generous ratios - I did it with my gravel bike with a 46/30 + 36/10, doing the last stretch with all the teeth available and on the pedals. Once you reach the top, if you have a... read more

I echo the descriptions made before me. I would only add that on weekends in the mid to high season the road is quite busy, as several hiking trails start at the top of the climb. There are no drinking fountains along the climb, the only one being adjacent to the car park at the end of the climb.

Very hard, never lets up, best tackled by MTB. Avoid the hottest hours in summer.

Once you reach the top, if you have a gravel bike you can decide to continue and do the dirt part, which is a lot of fun and beautiful.
The climb as a whole is very spectacular from a scenic point of view, because it allows a glimpse to the west towards the Seriana valley - at a glance you can go beyond Bergamo and even see the mountains of the Brembana valley, including the very recognisable Valcava - and to the south towards the mountains overlooking Lake Endine. However, it is a very exposed climb with little vegetation, so it can present unpleasant surprises in summer. Since the climb is therefore quite long, I recommend stocking up on water - in Gandino you will find a few fountains along the way.
