I can recommend this alternative to everyone. It is much quieter than the main road, you pass the beautiful old hotel Pax Montana and you also cycle for a bit on a deserted cool forest road in the shade. Just before you join the main road, you cycle over another one of those's old wooden bridges with a roof. The start of this alternative, by the way, does take you through open (possibly hot sunny) meadows where it can get steep.
