Our cottage was pretty much the last house on the mountain, so I got to know this beguiling little thing quite well. 18 hairpin bends over a length of 7 kilometres: madness, but also insanely clean. The slaloming road through the greenery, the church of Malta shrinking a little after each bend, the higher Alpine peaks in the distance, the approaching forest ... I found it an experience of pure beauty. Also because you have the road almost all to yourself. During the entire climb you hardly cross any cars. And a good thing too, because it is not a wide road, and while zigzagging it doesn't get any narrower. At one point my bike computer read 6 km/h, and my zigzagging wheels threatened to disappear into a cattle grid. Highly recommended both in terms of physical challenge and aesthetic experience, in short.
