La montée des Karellis commence par la côte qui mène au Bochet. Depuis Saint-Jean, on ajoute donc 2km. Ça commence à constituer une ascension sérieuse. D’autant plus que les pourcentages ne descendent jamais en dessous de 7％.
La route est principalement correcte et propre mais certains virages sont légèrement dégradés.
Peu de circulation, mais c’était la fin de saison.
La station est nettement moins effrayante que celle de La Toussuire.
Une ascension exigeante qui offre ses plus beaux atours lors de la descente vers Saint-Jean.
20 June 2025 from 7.30 am at the bottom of the climb (start and return point St Michel de Maurienne), in the fresh or almost! On the way back down I passed a dozen cyclists. There wasn't much traffic, especially at the start with people heading to work, to the valley or up into the resort.
The karelys, the little Pradol lake and the descent via Albanne then the col of the same name.
The lower part is a bit noisy with all the activity in the valley, but the higher you go, the better it gets.
There weren't any huge gradients, but a good average percentage, and it passed without suffering too much, but nevertheless at a fairly slow pace.
48 km there and back for me at the end of the week, with a ride every day, which is great for finishing with thighs that no longer provide much energy!
I reckon it might be worth a little diversions at the end of a holiday for someone on holiday, after having done all the mythical climbs of the major passes...
20 juin 2025 à partir de 7h30 en bas de la montée (point de départ et retour St Michel de Maurienne), à la fraîche ou presque ! En redescendant j'ai croisé une douzaine de cyclistes. Peu de circulation, surtout au début des gens qui allaient travailler, vers la vallée ou en haut dans la station.
Les karelys, le petit lac de Pradol et descente par Albanne puis le col du même nom.
Le bas est un peu bruyant avec l'activité de la vallée et plus on monte mieux c'est.
Pas de pourcentages énormes mais un bon pourcentage moyen, c'est passé sans trop souffrir mais néanmoins à un rythme assez lent.
48 kms aller retour pour moi en fin de semaine avec sortie tous les jours, très bien pour terminer avec des cuisses qui ne fournissent plus beaucoup d'énergie !
Je considère que ça peut valoir un petit détour en fin de séjour pour un vacancier, après avoir fait toutes les montées mythiques des grands cols...
I flipped a coin and cycled up to les Karellis first – a dead end – and then to Col d’Albanne, which passed along the very nice Lac de Premol, with a cold water tap.
The (Albanne) col marker is located lower than the village you first pass through when coming from Karelis…
Not the most famous climb in the area but with its 8％ average it is very tough. Good road surface and not crowded at all. Much in the forest and you end up in a not so wonderful ski village.
Niet de meest bekende klim in de omgeving maar met zijn 8％ gemiddeld zeer pittig. Prima wegdek en totaal niet druk. Veel in het bos en je komt uit in een niet zo'n schitterend skidorp.
Done since I went up to the Col D'Albanne via the Lac de Pramol.
