Nice climb, but certainly nothing special. The road is wonderfully quiet up to les Gendres. After that, it's a shame the road continues unpaved, but all in all a nice climb if you're in the area.
Leuke klim, maar zeker niet bijzonder. De weg is heerlijk rustig tot aan les Gendres. Daarna is het jammer dat de weg onverhard doorgaat, maar al met al een leuke klim als je in de buurt bent.
I wasn't tempted. Its name doesn't really appeal. Well, you have to go there! But not to Les Gendres... Well, yes. Well, I'm trying to explain.
There used to be two villages on this road, both called Les Gendres. Ours, the second one, the higher one, the one after the village called La Montagne, would have been renamed Les Fabres.
In this area, they seem to lack the imagination to come up with names that are good for the imagination.
Anyway, it starts in Crots with a neat castle, then you drive on to this sign called Les Gendres, which doesn't actually mean the Gendres you're looking for! But you know you're on the right track. So you keep on climbing in search of your Gendres... When you get to La Montagne, a local shepherdess tells you the story of all those Gendres...
Well, that's that. But if you continue along the road past Les Fabres, there's a path called Les Gendres. Don't you get it? I didn't either. And I can only imagine what I'd say when translated into Dutch!
But it's quite beautiful up there. Perhaps mainly because of the snow, which is still there in May?
It's a steady climb. The road is a bit bumpy (well, that's more noticeable on the way down).
I really enjoyed it. I also loved the climb up Boscodon. Yes, a must-do.
PS: the sign pictured is the sign for the cowards! You have to continue for a good 5 km.
Elle ne me tentait pas. Son nom ne fait pas vraiment rêver. Et bien pourtant, il faut y aller ! Mais pas aux Gendres… Enfin, si. Enfin, j’essaie de vous expliquer.
Auparavant, il existait deux lieux dits sur cette route, tous deux dénommés Les Gendres. Le notre, le second, le plus haut, est celui qui est situé après le village nommé La Montagne. Ces Gendres là auraient été rebaptisé Les Fabres.
Dans ce coin, ils semblent manquer d’imagination pour trouver des noms qui font du bien à l’imaginaire. La route s’appelle comment ? La route de la montagne !!!
Bref, ça commence à Crots par un château tout propre, puis vous roulez jusqu’à cette pancarte Les Gendres qui ne correspond pas aux Gendres que vous cherchez ! Mais, vous savez que vous êtes dans la bonne direction. Alors, vous continuez à grimper à la recherche de vos Gendres… Quand vous arrivez à La Montagne, une bergère autochtone vous raconte l’histoire de tous ces Gendres…
Bon. Reste que si vous poursuivez la route après Les Fabres, un chemin se nomme les Gendres.

Mais, là haut, c’est plutôt beau. Peut-être surtout grâce à la neige qui perdure en ce mois de mai ?
Ca grimpe très régulièrement. La route est un peu bosselée (enfin, ça on le constate surtout quand on redescend).
J’ai aimé. J’avais aussi adoré la montée du Boscodon. Oui, à faire.
PS : la pancarte photographiée est la pancarte des laches ! Il faut continuer 5 bons km.
Nice climb. Very even. Asphalt in general good. Only the end point Les Gendres on the map is not right in my opinion, that point is earlier.
Leuke klim. Heel gelijkmatig. Asfalt in het algemeen goed. Alleen klopt het eindpunt Les Gendres op de kaart volgens mij niet, dat punt ligt eerder.
As the most regular pass I think there is nothing better, it allows you to work on your endurance and improve your average speed on the climb
Comme col le plus régulier je crois qu'il n'y a pas mieux, ça permet de bien travailler son endurance et améliorer sa vitesse moyenne en montée
Nice steady climb with good road surface and little traffic. From Crots you first cycle along the castle of Picomotal and then up between the trees. At the top there is no clear marking and the view is not very special but it is a nice climb for the beginning of the holiday.
Leuke steady klim met prima wegdek en weinig verkeer. Vanuit Crots fiets je eerst langs het kasteel van Picomotal en vervolgens tussen de bomen omhoog. Boven is er geen duidelijke markering en uitzicht is ook niet bijzonder maar leuke klim voor begin van de vakantie.
Nice steady climb, where especially the length and the steep hairpins are the challenge. Asphalt is reasonable to good. Quite worthwhile.
Mooie steady klim, waar met name de lengte en de steile haarspeldbochten de uitdaging zijn. Asfalt is redelijk tot goed. Best de moeite waard.
