A climb of nearly 400 metres over 3 kilometres! It’s certainly no walk in the park. The sort of climb that brings back fond memories of the triple chainring… After all, 3 kilometres can feel like a long way. Especially as the climb doesn’t end at Le Sappey. You have to carry on to a place called Le Crêt, perched a few hundred metres further on, higher up. The end of the climb is the Col de la Buffaz. In fact, you can even push on to the water reservoir, which sits at over 1,000 metres and... read more

A climb of nearly 400 metres over 3 kilometres! It’s certainly no walk in the park.
The sort of climb that brings back fond memories of the triple chainring…
After all, 3 kilometres can feel like a long way. Especially as the climb doesn’t end at Le Sappey. You have to carry on to a place called Le Crêt, perched a few hundred metres further on, higher up. The end of the climb is the Col de la Buffaz. In fact, you can even push on to the water reservoir, which sits at over 1,000 metres and proudly displays its altitude. Then the tarmac ends. Just one bend before the hard part begins, followed by an almost straight stretch…
The road is fairly clear. Well, given the breakneck speed at which I climb this sort of hill, nothing threw me off. And then I saw that Climbfinder estimated it could be climbed at 3.4 km/h! My dignity is intact. During the descent, which was really fast, I felt that some sections weren’t perfect.
At the top, nothing to write home about, but some lovely, graceful views.
These short, very steep climbs are both challenging and exciting. There are a few of them in the area…

A very short climb of 3.5km on a crazy gradient.
A single hairpin bend a little after the start then a long straight stretch where you have to manage your effort.
Crossing Le Sappey after 2.5km, there's around 1km left still on a terrible gradient with passage at 17%.
The traffic is very calm and the scenery magnificent, but it's worth it.
