I find this variant of the Rosier by far the least: poor road surface, and the steep sections are in the suburbs. Give me the variant with the hairpin bends then!

The only climb in Belgium whose name is preceded by "Col". It also lives up to this by giving a real col feeling. Not as steep or long as the Alps but certainly good practice for the bigger mountain work. The road is regrettably very bad until you've already ridden out part Spa, then it widens and the percentages get a bit softer too. The descent is also very nice! Highly recommended!

Aanrader!

The Col du Rideux definitely disagrees with your opening sentence ;) In fact, that was the very first col in Belgium

The first 3 kms of this climb are an alternative to the well-known, more western Rosier routes from Spa. Slightly less beautiful (for the forest part), but quiet. More straightforward uphill than the two western variants. You ride through the suburbs to the forest, where the climb follows the same road as the two others to the top of the Rosier.
By percentages and length the toughest Rosier climb. A good choice to test yourself for 5.5 km at a steady pace. Through a beautiful area.
