Done on 30 April 2024 in pleasant weather despite cloudy conditions. I discovered this climb on ClimbFinder, even though I often pass by it, but I didn't think it was this high. The profile only details the climb at the junction between the D66 and the VC62 that goes up to Plan du Four, but if you're coming from the Isère valley, you need to add another 100m of ascent.
For those coming from Albertville, I recommend taking the Rte de St Thomas, which is quieter than the Rte de la Bâthie.
Otherwise, for the ascent, the profile only indicates average gradients in 500M sections, but it's easier in places ( 4-5% ) and much steeper in others ( 12-13 and even 17% ).
The tarmac is OK for an ordinary road bike despite some badly degraded sections and care will be needed on the descent.
Arrival at Plan du Four in front of a dirt road at 1060M altitude.
The vast majority of the ascent is in the woods, leaving views over the valley in just a few places.
To sum up: A nice, quiet climb on a small, little-used road that will delight cyclists on holiday in the area.
