The road gets worse every year (winter-weather influences) in December 2023 there was a landslide and the road is likely to be closed until May. Indeed, the climb gets a bit better in terms of road surface after 5 km. I do not recommend the climb by road bike, MTB/VTT and gravel bike can be done. Caravans along the road in summer belong to the shepherds who guard/escort the sheep herds. In good weather super views at the top. Frumezan is the Arpitan name for Fremezan. Arpitan is the language spoken in Savoy. An epicerie / depot du pain / bike workshop will open in St Colomban from May 2024 (after the centre of the village towards the Glandon). Necessary cycling accessories available there.

Noodzakelijke fietsaccessoires daar verkrijgbaar.

I concur with the previous poster. I did this climb coming down from the Glandon and had some difficulty finding it. There's a church with a parking at the entry of the trail. If you ride a "pure" race bike, this might not be doable. I have a gravel bike with 34 mm tyres and I barely got through the bad patches on that. It does get better higher up indeed and how they manage to get even a camper up there, is a mistery to me 😂 Be (very) careful going down.

After 10 kilometres on the Col du Glandon, in the village of Saint Colomban, you turn right for this climb. Where the Glandon was quite steady at 7 percent, the road here is much steeper. The road surface is bad, especially in the beginning where the road surface is gone in places, but it gets better the higher you go. Because of the forest, the steep road and the bad road surface it feels a bit like the Ardennes. The climb ends at a hut and a footpath, and here is little to see, so you must be looking for the challenge and not the view. The sign indicates Frumezan instead of Fremezan.
