Done in 2022, linking Les Lacets de Montvernier, Col Du Chaussy and Le Col de la Madeleine. There is a nice bit of dirt track to do afterwards that leads into the middle of the ski slopes and 2 hairpin bends from the Col de la Madeleine. Hardly anyone passes through there, it is very pretty.... read more

When cycling up Col du Chaussy from La Chambre (August 2022),thanks to Climbfinder this extra little fantasy cycled along for a few extra kilometres and especially altimeters.
Route starts after the left turn just before cycling into the small village of Bonvillard . Narrow steeply (+10%) climbing road finds its way between some trees, twisting its way to the picturesque quiet lake.
After cycling past Lac de Loup, a few hairpin bends lead up against an open mountainside to end up on a desolate plateau.
There stands the lonely chapel St.Marguerite (1635m) where, just past it, the road turns into gravel.
End point rewards you with a beautiful wide 360° panorama.
The tarmac is not top but there is no traffic and hardly any habitation.

Thank you Climbfinder for this short powerful and beautiful hidden gem!!!

Ranked as the steepest mountain in "La Maurienne" that is of course how you look at it. The 1.6 kilometres do not really go below 10%, but to start the stretch you must (depending on which side you come from) have done the Col de Chaussy completely or almost completely already. Besides, the small lake is only halfway along the paved road there. Around the lake the road climbs for another 1,5 km before it ends up on a dirt road, so it is not quite "fair" to lay the "top" of this climb at the lake (coincidentally at the end of the really steep part). But anyway... I have done the Col de Chaussy from the Lacets de Montvernier, then you have to descend a little bit and it is a nice 1.5 km climb before you descend to La Chambre.
