The climbing route to Lac de la Grande Léchère is the first part similar to the alternative route to the Col de la Madeleine over Montgellafrey. Just before this village there is a beastly 5km section with almost continuous 10％.
After turning left just before the little church, the second section climbs irregularly up the forest flank through small hamlets with a few houses. Goats, sheep and cows in the meadow but also occasional escaped singles on the road.
Route seemed endless with no distance indication and it narrows towards the end. Asphalt is of varying quality and there are wide metal water gutters across the road that it is best to bear in mind on your descent back.
There are some water pumps along the way and at the end there is a refuge for any supplies.
The small lake at the end is a bit hidden and disappointing in size, but the climb to it with the wonderful panoramic views and no traffic was definitely worth it!
De klimroute naar Lac de la Grande Léchère is het eerste deel gelijklopend met de alternatieve route naar de Col de la Madeleine over Montgellafrey. Vlak voor dit dorp is er een beestig deel van 5 km. met bijna continu 10％.
Na het links afdraaien vlak voor het kerkje klimt het tweede deel onregelmatig door kleine gehuchtjes met enkele huizen bochtig de woudflank op. Geiten, schapen en koeien in de weide maar ook soms ontsnapte enkelingen op de weg.
Route leek eindeloos zonder afstandsindicatie en ze wordt smaller naar het einde toe. Asfalt is wisselend van kwaliteit en er zijn brede metalen watergoten dwars over de weg waar je in je afdaling terug best rekening mee houd.
Er zijn enkele waterpompen onderweg en op het einde is er een refuge voor eventuele bevoorrading.
Het meertje op het eindpunt is wat verdoken en tegenvallend in omvang , doch de klim ernaartoe met de wondermooie panoramische uitzichten en geen verkeer, vond ik absoluut de moeite!
A leisurely ride up after the long drive to this cycling mecca. Nice climb to warm up. Nice views over the valley and challenging without demolishing. Too bad that it is a dead-end climb, there is an unpaved path that forms a connection to the Madeleine, but that is absolutely not doable with a road bike! Therefore, first descend a bit and then possibly follow the route of the Madeleine again.
Climbing is a nice alternative if you do not want to do the real giants yet or if you have done them in the days before... Otherwise, however, I would choose the Granon, Madeleine or Croix de Fer....
Op het gemakje omhoog gereden na de lange autorit naar dit fietswalhalla. Leuke klim om warm te rijden. Mooie uitzichten over het dal en uitdagend zonder te slopen. Jammer wel dat het een doodlopende klim is, er is een onverhard pad dat een verbinding vormt naar de Madeleine, maar dat is absoluut niet te doen met een racefiets! Daarvoor dus eerst stukje dalen en dan route van de Madeleine evt weer volgen.
Klim is een leuk alternatief als je de echte reuzen nog niet wil doen of de dagen ervoor juist hebt gedaan... anders zou ik echter toch kiezen voor de Granon, Madeleine of Croix de Fer....
This one is nice to do. Although very irregular with many short sections of 12％ or more. End point is nice, and if you take the Madeleine exit again, you have a very nice alternative climb to the Madeleine itself, and you can sort of make a round trip.
Road surface is fine, but the last part of the climb is a bit narrow.
Deze is mooi om te doen. Alhoewel erg onregelmatig met veel korte stukken van 12％ of meer. Eindpunt is mooi, en als je terug de afslag Madeleine pakt heb je een hele mooie alternatieve klim naar de Madeleine zelf, en kan je soort van een rondje maken.
Wegdek is prima, laatste stuk van de klim is de weg wat smal.
Done this morning between two storms, to recover from yesterday, so climbing at a steady pace around 10-11 km/h, the climb is pretty steady except at the end where it alternates between flat and wall on a very good surface for a very little used road, which makes it even more wearing after the initial wall with 5 km between 9 and 17％ which will hurt you a lot, then when you turn towards the road to the refuge, there is a good saving flat. I'll do it again tomorrow or the day after tomorrow in the final.
Fait ce matin entre deux orages, pour récupéré de hier, donc monter à allure régulière autour des 10-11 km/h, la montée est assez régulière sauf à la fin où elle alterne entre passage en replat et mur sur un revêtement très bon pour une route très peu empruntée, ce qui la rend encore plus usante après le mur initial avec 5 km entre 9 et 17％ qui vous fera bien mal, puis quand on tourne vers la route du refuge, on a un bon replat salvateur. Je vais la refaire demain ou après demain en finale.
