In itself, it’s a fairly steady climb that you can go full beans on; we did it after descending from Sarenne but I imagine adding this on top of a full ascent if ADH would make it a killer climb. Great views of the ski area and up to Pic Blanc. Road surface was okay but lots of work traffic had made it dusty and a bit gravelly in places, so worth being cautious on corners. The lake isn’t much to write home about but it’s a good climb to tick off to at least get above 2000m. On a nice day it’s worth the effort.

Why not go to the end of pavement? Worth finishing. Quiet, easy ride to the top.

Nice climb with great views of the Pic Blanc and the Grandes Rousses massif, only the road is poor and there can be quite a bit of traffic, otherwise a very nice climb.

The climb to Lac Besson and Lac Noir starts where the Tour puts the finishing line of Alpe d'Huez.
So you can continue on after the famous 21 countdown hairpin bends on the wide busy road as a continuation and leave the mastodon ski village behind you via the narrower Route du Lac, which starts thv the roundabout at the end of the wide finish avenue. Via the Col du Poutran (1996m) you then climb another 6 kilometres and altitude metres, almost traffic-free over bumpy, not so good tarmac with irregular gradients, in a more natural setting to the car park at the 3 beautifully located small mountain lakes. Lac Besson (2083m) is the highest cycling point where the tarmac really stops and where the 360° view shows how ugly the well-known ski village is compared to the rest of the mountain environment.
For me personally as a Belgian, the truly beautiful natural endpoint of the legendary Dutch mountain!
