The Raiderie is certainly not a climb for the connoisseur of the more idyllic climbs where you feel completely immersed in nature. In fact, the Raiderie is anything but a beauty. However, the unsuspecting cyclist might be fooled by the picturesque little church of Bayenghem-lès-Seninghem at the start of the climb which seems to indicate that it will be a charming climb.
The climb is steep right from the start and soon becomes even steeper. The first 600 meters are anything but easy. At a turn to the left it seems to get easier, but once again a steep part follows. Then the climb turns to the left again and the road becomes parallel to the motorway. A look back completes the picture, with the cement factories of Lumbres in the background. Those who started the climb too fast, still have to climb for more than a kilometre with acid in their legs. For those who still have some left, this is the ideal part to push hard and to torture your cycling mates. Do not look to the right (motorway), but take a look at the beautiful hilly landscape to the left.
La Raiderie is bepaald geen klim voor de fijnproever van de meer idyllische beklimmingen waarbij men zich volledig in de natuur waant. Intengenteel, de Raiderie is alles behalve een schoonheid. Hoewel de niets vermoedende fietser zich misschien nog laat misleiden door het pitoreske kerkje van Bayenghem-lès-Seninghem bij de start van de klim, die lijkt aan te geven dat het een charmante klim gaat worden.
De klim gaat gelijk steil omhoog en wordt al snel nog steiler. De eerste 600 meter zijn alles behalve makkelijk. Bij een bochtje naar links lijkt het even makkelijker te worden, maar nog eenmaal volgt een steil stuk. Daarna draait de klim nogmaals naar links en komt men parallel aan de snelweg te rijden. Een blik achterom maakt het beeld compleet, met de cement fabrieken van Lumbres op de achtergrond. Wie te snel begonnen is aan de klim, moet nu nog ruim een kilometer omhoog met zuur in de benen. Voor wie nog wat over heeft, is dit het ideale stuk om flink door te trekken en de fietsmaten te pijnigen. Kijk vooral niet naar rechts (snelweg), maar werp een blik op het fraaie heuvellandschap aan de linkerkant.
