We did this climb from Aix- les- bains after Col de Sapenay. It’s worth taking a slight detour at the « Col « marker to the Belvedere which is just additional short climb for magnificent lake (Lac du bourget) views.
This is a less strenuous variant of the Chambotte,at least if you start as indicated here,if you take the Route du Mognard just before the starting point, then you get a few hundred metres of double gradients(max15%),at crossroads with major road to Annecy it becomes much gentler.
