The water was high so my climb was a bit shorter. In or after summer, you can often still see the old bridge. Indeed still fine asphalt but lots of wood dust and twigs from forestry. Still fine to ride. You do have to descend via the climbing section and I would take it easy in the curves.
Is it a punishment to descend this climb first? Absolutely not because really beautiful scenery, lots of nature and nice curves. Just after the start there is a beautiful beaver dam on the right (on the left is an observation hut). Just enjoy this climb.
Het water stond hoog dus mijn klim was wat korter geworden. In of na de zomer kan je de oude brug vaak nog zien. Inderdaad nog prima asfalt maar veel houtgruis en takjes van de bosbouw. Toch prima te berijden. Je moet wel afdalen via het klimtraject en dan zou ik het in de bochten wel rustig aandoen.
is het een straf om deze klim eerst af te dalen? Absoluut niet want werkelijk een prachtige omgeving, veel natuur en fraaie bochten. Net na het begin is er rechts een fraaie beverdam (links is een observatiehutje). Gewoon genieten deze klim.
A special climb. This used to be the main road from Schevenhütte to Kleinhau, but at the end of the 70's they made a reservoir here. The road that lay here has never been cleared, a large part of it is still perfectly bikeable, until you reach the lake where the road disappears into the water, the starting point therefore depends on the current water level. The road is free of traffic, you'll meet mainly hikers. The asphalt is surprisingly good for a road that has been there for over 45 years, but there may be dirt on the road by logging, that remains long because there is no traffic to clean it.
Then the climb itself: The first half is really a gem, first along a beautiful stream where nature has free play, then it gets steeper and you get quickly after each other 2 hairpins. From the left kink it flattens out and it opens up more, here the wind sometimes has free play.
Een bijzondere klim. Vroeger was dit de doorgaande weg van Schevenhütte naar Kleinhau, maar eind jaren 70 is hier een stuwmeer gemaakt. De weg die hier lag is nooit opgeruimd, een groot deel is nog prima befietsbaar, totdat je bij het meer aankomt waar de weg in het water verdwijnt, het beginpunt hangt dan ook af van de huidige waterstand. De weg is verkeersvrij, je komt vooral wandelaars tegen. Het asfalt is verbazingwekkend goed voor een weg die er al ruim 45 jaar ligt, wel kan er viezigheid op de weg liggen door houtkap, dat blijft ook lang liggen omdat er geen verkeer is om het schoon te rijden.
Dan de klim zelf: De eerste helft is echt een pareltje, eerst langs een mooie beek waar de natuur vrij spel heeft, daarna wordt het steiler en krijg je vlot achter elkaar 2 haarspelden. Vanaf de knik linksaf vlakt het af en trekt het ook meer open, hier heeft de wind soms vrij spel.
