The road up to the B489 from the village of Ivinghoe Aston is a steeper and quieter approach than by either of the approaches along the B489. The climb of Ivinghoe Beacon from Ivinghoe Aston is the best way to do it. It's no Whiteleaf, but it's good. The road up to the B489 from the village of Ivinghoe Aston is a steeper and quieter approach than by either of the approaches along the B489. You do have a short section on the B489, including a bit of downhill, but this is tolerable, and then you're on the top part through open land and woods. This way feels like more of a climb than the alternatives. Depending on where you're coming from, the loop out to Slapton is quite long, but you can reach it on quieter roads than the B489, and there are good views to the Beacon all the way along it. I will just say - that all climbs associated with places with "Aston" in the name, in the Chilterns, are good!
