One of several climbs on the southern end of Hope Mountain finishing at the high point on the road. All share the same steep finish from the former Talbot Inn but have a different start. The Barracks Lane climb starts steeply up a sunken lane (relatively poor tarmac, grit and leaves etc. on the road) but the hard stuff is over after the first 3-400m. After that gradient lessens significantly and it's a fast blast to the Talbot Inn before the climbing really starts. The climb up to the Talbot Inn lacks the variety that the starts from either Abermorddu or Ffrith have but it is still a worthwhile ascent.
