What a drag. Really regular and with little to offer when it comes to gradients, but it's a real energy-sapper as it keeps going for much longer than you'd like: you try and push through, it's just going to make it that bit harder. Good surface and on a segregated bike path, but quite some traffic on the road next to you.
Of all ways to reach Valkenburg, this is probably my least favourite.
This " climb" is mainly ridden up when coming from the north (Sittard and Geleen) towards Valkenburg, It is then about the first warm-up for the " real climbing" in southern Limburg. Een wat zeurderige klim. Het stuk over de brede weg door de bebouwde kom lijkt eindeloos te duren en landschappelijk en qua helling (plus een vrijliggend fietspad) wordt het pas beter als je de bebouwde kom verlaat maar dan ben je er al bijna. Via de Hobbelrade is dan een stuk aangenamer.
De helling is geen moment hetzelfde. Als je deze volle bak omhoog fietst zou de lengte en de variërende stijging (ook al is die gemiddeld gering) best een sloper kunnen zijn.
