A very pleasant climb through the forest, with a beautiful view. The first few kilometres are almost flat, with no difficulties, then comes the sign for the "col du haussire in 1200m", and there the gradients start to make themselves felt, you just have to manage a little. All in all, quite easy. For a great experience, head back down to La Roche on the main road, then take the Maboge wall, the 1st on the right as you enter the village of Maboge, a little less pretty but more serious in ％.
Montée en forêt très agréable, avec une très belle vue. Les premiers kilomètres ne se font pas sentir, aucune difficulté, puis arrive le panneau "col du haussire dans 1200m", et là les pourcentages se font sentir, il suffit ensuite de gérer un peu. Assez facile somme toute. Pour une chouette expérience, redescendre sur la Roche par la départementale, puis faire ensuite le mur de Maboge, 1ère à droite à l'entrée du village de Maboge, un peu moins jolie mais plus sérieuse en ％.
Nice climb with nice prospect but very narrow and bad road surface. The slightly flatter intermediate section is good for recovering.
Leuke klim met mooi vooruitzicht maar wel heel smal en slecht wegdek. Het iets vlakker tussenstuk is goed om te bekomen.
Such'a climb you must have done as a cycling tourist. The Haussire already lives up to its name. Up to the junction with the wildlife park it does not seem too bad, but once past that point the percentages suddenly increase considerably. Great setting to do such's climb. Highly recommended!
Zo'n klim die je moet gedaan hebben als wielertoerist. De Haussire maakt zijn naam alvast waar. Tot aan de splitsing met het wildpark lijkt het allemaal flink mee te vallen, maar eens daar voorbij nemen de percentages plots flink toe. Geweldige omgeving om zo'n klim te doen. Aanrader!
A great climb, demanding, varied and unusual for the Benelux countries. The road is often in poor condition, so take care when descending. A few particularly reckless/irresponsible motorists, motorcyclists and pedestrians, but on the whole not much traffic. Having three options for the first part (here it's the direct option, with no flat/descent, but also rolling) before the last 1500 metres, which is what makes this pass so special, makes for some interesting variations from La Roche. Steeper in both cases (so a "double wall" effect for targeted work on steep slopes) but with a descent over a few hundred metres. The "real pass" is therefore the southern climb and its 270 D+. I have incredible memories of this place from when the late La Roche 111 triathlon passed through here several times.
Montée très chouette, exigeante, variée et atypique pour le Benelux. Route souvent en partie dégradée donc prudence en descente. Quelques automobilistes, motards et piétons particulièrement imprudents/irresponsables mais dans l'ensemble peu de circulation. Avoir trois options pour la première partie (ici c'est l'option directe, sans replat/resdecente, mais aussi roulante) avant le dernier 1500 qui fait la particularité de ce col, permet d'intéressantes variations depuis la Roche. Plus raides dans les deux cas (donc effet "double mur" pour un travail ciblé pentes fortes) mais avec une redescente sur quelques centaines de mètres. Le "vrai col" c'est donc la montée sud et ses 270 D+. Souvenir incroyable du lieu quand feu le triathlon 111 de La Roche y passait plusieurs fois.
Very clean side of the Haussire. First time we did it and actually even nicer than the official side.

To tell the truth, I'm a bit disappointed with such a famous pass in Belgium. First of all, the condition of the road is not worthy of Belgium's number one hill (version from the centre of La Roche), and secondly, there are really a lot of cars passing through the first part of the pass, and this because of the game park that is located halfway up. As the road is quite narrow, there is always little room to pass.
A vrai dire, je suis un peu déçu de col si réputé en Belgique. Premièrement l'état de la route n'est pas digne de la côte numéro un de la Belgique (version depuis le centre de la Roche), ensuite, il y a vraiment beaucoup de voitures qui passent dans la première partie du col, et ce à cause du parc à gibier qui se situe à la mi-ascension. Comme la route est assez étroite, cela laisse chaque fois peu de place pour passer.
This is the southern climb, which doesn't go through the game park, which has its advantages... and it's not classified as number 1.
Ici on parle de la montée sud, qui ne passe pas par le parc à gibier, ce qui a ses avantages justement... et elle n'est pas classée numéro 1.
I recommend this one. Contrary to the climb from La Roche itself, this one is actually lovely until the last 1.5 km where the percentage rises. The first 2,5 km, it's great pedalling around and you don't have the idea that the Haussire is the number 1 climb of Belgium. But then comes the last part. It's a struggle to reach the top. Even in high season, it is a wonderfully quiet road where you can ride up in peace and quiet!
Aanrader deze. In tegenstelling tot de beklimming vanuit La Roche zelf loopt deze eigenlijk heerlijk tot aan de laatste anderhalve km waar het percentage omhoog schiet. De eerste 2,5 km is het heerlijk rondtrappen en heb je nog niet het idee dat de Haussire de nummer 1 klim is van België. Maar dan komt het laatste stuk. Waar het ploeteren en stoempen is naar de top. Ook in het hoogseizoen is het een heerlijk rustige weg waar je in alle rust omhoog kan rijden!
We arrived from Houffalize and this climb seemed to be part of my route.
We turned right one street too early and were welcomed by a very steep section (Chemin du Pafy). After about 600 meters I understood that we were not on the right route and we turned back. The legs were more than warmed up.
Eventually, next to an activity domain (Les Merlettes), we started this climb, not knowing what was waiting for us.
The first part was a real relief after the Chemin du Pafy a few minutes earlier. With these gradients of 5-6％, this will be a pleasant climb, we thought. But the climb went on and on and turned out to be tougher and tougher.
I have little experience with climbing in the Ardennes and I have to admit that it took some pumping to get to the top.
Definitely a must if you're in the area but don't underestimate the length as a beginner.
We kwamen van Houffalize aangereden en deze klim zat blijkbaar in mijn route.
Aanvankelijk een straat te vroeg naar rechts ingereden waar we verwelkomd werden door een zeer steil stuk (Chemin du Pafy). Na zo'n 600 meter begreep ik dat we niet op de juiste route zaten en maakten we rechtsomkeer. De beentjes waren meer als opgewarmd.
Uiteindelijk naast een activiteiten domein (Les Merlettes) begonnen aan deze beklimming, niet wetende wat ons te wachten stond.
Het eerste deel was een ware verademing na de Chemin du Pafy enkele minuten eerder. Met deze stijgingspercentages van 5-6％ wordt dit een aangename klim, dachten we. Maar de klim bleef maar duren en bleek alsmaar zwaarder te worden.
Ik heb weinig ervaring met klimmen in de Ardennen en toegegeven, dit was toch even pompen om boven te geraken.
Zeker een aanrader als je in de buurt bent maar onderschat de lengte niet als beginner zijnde.
Went up three times during La Roche 111. Nice climb! But be careful during the descent. Soon after the descent there is a dangerous hairpin bend to the right.
Drie keer omhoog gereden tijdens La Roche 111. Leuke klim! Pas wel op bij de afdaling. Er volgt al vrij snel een gevaarlijke haarspeldbocht naar rechts.
Climbs as long and as straight as this one are rare in Belgium! Very pleasant climb, I like the last part despite its percentages.
Hellingen die zo lang en toch zo rechtlijnig zijn als deze zijn zeldzaam in België! Zeer aangename klim, het laatste deel vind ik zeer mooi ondanks zijn percentages.
