Very clean side of the Haussire. First time we did it and actually even nicer than the official side.
Zeer schone kant van de Haussire. Eerste keer dat wij hem deden en eigenlijk nog mooier dan de officiële kant.

To tell the truth, I'm a bit disappointed with such a famous pass in Belgium. First of all, the condition of the road is not worthy of Belgium's number one hill (version from the centre of La Roche), and secondly, there are really a lot of cars passing through the first part of the pass, and this because of the game park that is located halfway up. As the road is quite narrow, there is always little room to pass.
A vrai dire, je suis un peu déçu de col si réputé en Belgique. Premièrement l'état de la route n'est pas digne de la côte numéro un de la Belgique (version depuis le centre de la Roche), ensuite, il y a vraiment beaucoup de voitures qui passent dans la première partie du col, et ce à cause du parc à gibier qui se situe à la mi-ascension. Comme la route est assez étroite, cela laisse chaque fois peu de place pour passer.
I recommend this one. Contrary to the climb from La Roche itself, this one is actually lovely until the last 1.5 km where the percentage rises. The first 2,5 km, it's great pedalling around and you don't have the idea that the Haussire is the number 1 climb of Belgium. But then comes the last part. It's a struggle to reach the top. Even in high season, it is a wonderfully quiet road where you can ride up in peace and quiet!
Aanrader deze. In tegenstelling tot de beklimming vanuit La Roche zelf loopt deze eigenlijk heerlijk tot aan de laatste anderhalve km waar het percentage omhoog schiet. De eerste 2,5 km is het heerlijk rondtrappen en heb je nog niet het idee dat de Haussire de nummer 1 klim is van België. Maar dan komt het laatste stuk. Waar het ploeteren en stoempen is naar de top. Ook in het hoogseizoen is het een heerlijk rustige weg waar je in alle rust omhoog kan rijden!

Eventually, next to an activity domain (Les Merlettes), we started this climb, not knowing what was waiting for us.
The first part was a real relief after the Chemin du Pafy a few minutes earlier. With these gradients of 5-6％, this will be a pleasant climb, we thought. But the climb went on and on and turned out to be tougher and tougher.
I have little experience with climbing in the Ardennes and I have to admit that it took some pumping to get to the top.
Definitely a must if you're in the area but don't underestimate the length as a beginner.
We kwamen van Houffalize aangereden en deze klim zat blijkbaar in mijn route.
Aanvankelijk een straat te vroeg naar rechts ingereden waar we verwelkomd werden door een zeer steil stuk (Chemin du Pafy). Na zo'n 600 meter begreep ik dat we niet op de juiste route zaten en maakten we rechtsomkeer. De beentjes waren meer als opgewarmd.
Uiteindelijk naast een activiteiten domein (Les Merlettes) begonnen aan deze beklimming, niet wetende wat ons te wachten stond.
Het eerste deel was een ware verademing na de Chemin du Pafy enkele minuten eerder. Met deze stijgingspercentages van 5-6％ wordt dit een aangename klim, dachten we. Maar de klim bleef maar duren en bleek alsmaar zwaarder te worden.
Ik heb weinig ervaring met klimmen in de Ardennen en toegegeven, dit was toch even pompen om boven te geraken.
Zeker een aanrader als je in de buurt bent maar onderschat de lengte niet als beginner zijnde.
Went up three times during La Roche 111. Nice climb! But be careful during the descent. Soon after the descent there is a dangerous hairpin bend to the right.
Drie keer omhoog gereden tijdens La Roche 111. Leuke klim! Pas wel op bij de afdaling. Er volgt al vrij snel een gevaarlijke haarspeldbocht naar rechts.
Climbs as long and as straight as this one are rare in Belgium! Very pleasant climb, I like the last part despite its percentages.
Hellingen die zo lang en toch zo rechtlijnig zijn als deze zijn zeldzaam in België! Zeer aangename klim, het laatste deel vind ik zeer mooi ondanks zijn percentages.
