El Acebo is a beautiful col in Asturias which is especially in the first part very steep with actually constantly double figures.
The road surface is relatively good but here and there some loose gravel but limited.
The road is inviting because not too wide (no motorway) and especially beautiful views along the way.
Not much shade but Asturias is not as hot as the south of Spain.
A few years ago Carapaz won the Tour of Asturias up here and in the distant past Eddy Merckx and José Luis Abilleira fought out legendary battles. But also Perurena, Galdos, Oliva and many other Spanish pocket climbers fought to the death for the important mountain jersey in Spanish races.
El Acebo is een prachtige col in Asturië die vooral in het eerste deel zeer steil is met eigenlijk constant dubbele cijfers .
Het wegdek is relatief goed maar hier en daar wel een beetje los grind maar beperkt.
De weg is uitnodigend want niet te breed ( geen snelweg ) en vooral prachtige zichten ook onderweg.
Wel weinig schaduw maar Asturië is niet zo warm als het zuiden van Spanje.
Enkele jaren geleden was Carapaz hier boven nog ritwinnaar in de ronde van Asturië en in een ver verleden vochten Eddy Merckx en José Luis Abilleira er legendarische gevechten uit. Maar ook Perurena , Galdos , Oliva en nog vele andere Spaanse pocketklimmers streden er op leven en dood voor de zo belangrijke bergtrui in Spaanse wedstrijden.
