Climb started from the top of Puerto Pajares. The last kilometers towards the (extinct) ski station are steeper than steep! At the top you are rewarded with a beautiful panorama, but unfortunately no coke for me :)
Klim aangevat vanaf de top van Puerto Pajares. De slotkilometers richting het (uitgestorven) skistation zijn steiler dan steil! Boven word je wel beloond met een prachtig panorama, maar helaas geen cola voor mij :)
The Cuitu Negru is a very tough climb especially because of its length and the last 2,8 km.
Until a few kilometers before the top it is half highway but fortunately there is a kind of bike path or better a Spanish bike path with a white line on the road but the space for the cyclists is in many places often much smaller than a bike. The first kilometers are hardly uphill until after 8 km because there you have the first steeper parts because for about 3 kilometers the road goes up between 8 and 11％.
Then the road becomes less steep and after 16 km it goes up again for about 10 km and then goes up again gently until the M-630 changes into a small rough but smooth tarmac road. This road has been specially constructed to make the former unpaved stretch passable for the 2012 Vuelta passage. Here, you have to push yourself not to go backwards because the gradient here is double and there are short sections of more than 20％; the last 20 meters are even 24％ but here, and also on the way, you are treated to a beautiful overview of beautiful Asturias and adjacent Castilla and Leon.
De Cuitu Negru is een zeer zware klim vooral door zijn lengte en de laatste 2,8 km .
Tot op enkele kilometers voor de top is het een halve snelweg maar gelukkig is er een soort van fietspad of beter een Spaans fietspad met een witte lijn op de weg maar de plaats voor de fietsers is op tal van plaatsen dikwijls veel smaller dan een fiets. De eerste kilometers gaan amper bergop tot na 8 km want daar heb je de eerste steilere stukken want gedurende een 3 tal kilometers loopt de weg tussen de 8 en 11％ omhoog.
Vervolgens is het weer minder steil en na 16 kilometer hebben we terug enkele kilometers die tegen de 10％ aanlopen om vervolgens weer zacht omhoog te gaan tot waar de M-630 overgaat in een stuk smalle ruwe maar goedlopende asfaltweg . Deze weg is speciaal aangelegd om het vroegere onverharde stuk berijdbaar te maken voor de Vuelta passage van 2012 . Hier wordt het duwen om niet achteruit te rijden want de stijgingspercentage schieten hier ruim in de dubbele meters met meermaals korte stukken van meer dan 20％; De laatste 20 meter zijn zelfs 24％ maar hier en ook onderweg wordt je getrakteerd op een prachtig overzicht van het mooie Asturië en aanpalende Castilië en Leon.
