the climb is very busy, so I strongly suggest taking the variant on the fully paved and well-maintained cycle path that follows the route of the old Menaggio-Porlezza railway. The variant is taken after 1.6 km from the start of the climb in Menaggio (traffic light junction), at the second hairpin bend on Via Cadorna, turning into Via Nanc. The climb is 3 km at 5%. Once you reach the top, you can either proceed falsopiano towards Porlezza, or you can choose to do another 3 km uphill at 7% to... read more

Once you reach the top, you can either proceed falsopiano towards Porlezza, or you can choose to do another 3 km uphill at 7% to Naggio, on a traffic-free road exposed to the sun with beautiful views of Lake Como, and then descend towards Porlezza through the woods. Highly recommended!

Consigliatissimo!

Nice climb like you have many around Lake Como; winding through connecting road winding up past houses. We were not much bothered by the traffic, except for the big trucks's that sometimes use the road too. By the way, halfway up the climb you can cycle a short steep shortcut via Via Monte Grappa; nice to tighten the calves!

The main road from Menaggio to Lugano starts with this climb. The road winds with a very feasible gradient upwards for 3 kilometres, but unfortunately the traffic is particularly heavy. Moreover, Italian drivers want to pass as quickly as possible, with or without a view of oncoming traffic.
