Just before entering Boulogne-sur-Mer, the Côte de Beurre forms a real triptych together with the Mont d'Ecault and the Tour du Renard, of which the Côte de Beurre is the middle slope. But even without having ridden the acid in the legs on the extremely steep Mont d'Ecault, the Côte de Beurre is a nice challenge in itself. It quickly climbs above 10％. After 500 metres, there is a small pause for breath when it goes downhill for a while. But immediately afterwards, it climbs again well above 10％. Once up, the climb offers nice views in almost all directions. You can see the antennas of Mont Lambert, the viaduct of Echinghen, the Église catholique Saint-Étienne and of course the basilica of Boulogne-sur-Mer which towers above the city.
Vlak voor het binnenrijden van Boulogne-sur-Mer vormt de Côte de Beurre een heus 3-luik samen met de Mont d'Ecault en de Tour du Renard, waarvan de Côte de Beurre de middelste helling is. Maar ook zonder eerst het zuur in de benen gereden te hebben op de extreem steile Mont d'Ecault, vormt de Côte de Beurre op zichzelf een leuke uitdaging. Al snel klimt het boven de 10％. Na 500 meter is er een kleine adempauze als het even naar beneden gaat. Maar gelijk daarna stijgt het alweer ruim boven de 10％. Eenmaal boven biedt de klim fraaie uitzicht richting zowat alle richtingen. Zo heb je zicht op de antennes van de Mont Lambert, het viaduct van Echinghen, de Église catholique Saint-Étienne en uiteraard op de basiliek van Boulogne-sur-Mer die hoog boven de stad uittoornt.
