10 times better than the Haute Levee. Nice and steep but with a bit of dosing you never really hit your stride.
Variant bcp more interesting than the Haute-levée, a buccolic road through the countryside, a difficult climb, including a 200 m wall at over 15%
The Haute Levée has the name, but is a busy road where cars drive way too close. The côte d'Amermont is quiet, has decent tarmac and is just as steep. The best alternative to climb from Stavelot towards Francorchamps, but has one disadvantage: after the climb you are doomed to turn back on the busy road.
Beautiful climb, hardly any traffic. Nice alternative to the Haute Levee. The 2nd part is harder than the 1st part ;)
Prachtige klim, nauwelijks verkeer. Mooi alternatief voor de Haute Levee. Het 2e deel is zwaarder dan het 1e deel ;)
Fine alternative for Haute Levée, nice steep climb on a good country road. There is almost no traffic. If you continue to the roundabout and turn right you can extend this climb a bit, this is however much less steep than the first part of the climb.
All of a sudden a very nice and quiet little road up. But don't be mistaken, you feel the percentages immediately. The transition at the old railway is very welcome for the legs, then a small wall in character to the village.
The Côte d'Amermont is a side of the Haute Levée (known from Liège-Bastogne-Liège). It runs on the main road from Stavelot to Francorchaps (and further to Spa), with lots of traffic. Then you better choose this one. It runs more or less parallel, but is much more quiet in terms of traffic. It is a narrow road of which the road surface is not always very good. At the top you come to a roundabout on the main road of the Haute Levée which has the sole purpose to carry the monument in honor of 'La Doyenne'. If you turn right at the roundabout, you get the last meters of the spur of the Haute Levée, before you can descend towards Francorchamps. Many will go in the direction of the Rosier (like in LBL), but I recommend you to descend all the way into the village before turning left. There is a road that leads to the foot of the Rosier, but the road surface is terrible! Especially with a group it is not advisable.
A much safer alternative for the sometimes busy Haute Levée... Very nice landscape (don't forget to look behind you). Nice spur to the roundabout, direction Francorchamps.
The route on the map is not quite right. If you turn right halfway up the climb, you come to a dirt road, not doable with a racing bike. It is best to go straight on and only turn right at the roundabout. The road is wider and less crowded from there on.
Beautiful, but tough climb. The first steep part is very hard. After that it flattens out a bit, but the most difficult part is still to come. It was a matter of trying to get up with the lightest gear
Amermont = bitter mountain. This climb did not steal its name! :-)
