I climbed the Goléron pass from the western village of Saint-Girod. The advantage of this alternative is that most of the route is quiet and winding, joining the main road, the D63, as you approach the pass. And you can go back down the same slope by another route that is just as winding and that joins the starting point, i.e. Saint-Girod. A beautiful 12 km loop.

This climb was included in an exploratory drive. After a day of driving it is perfect to get acquainted with a challenging environment. The climb itself starts firmly after turning off, but the legs never really hurt here.
The road and the continuation are quite low on cars, so that was also a nice bonus.
