A very nice pass once you've passed the road below, but I recommend descending via Saint Pierre, as the road is better there. Don't forget to check your mirrors for a great view of the Flumet lake and the Bauges massif!

The contrast between the first and second part of this climb could not be greater. From a busy track where you don't really seem to be climbing anywhere to a super nice narrow road that winds evenly uphill. Don't forget to look back for a nice view and at the top more of that!

Nice climb, frequented in its first part (from Goncelin to Moretel-de-Mailles), much less so afterwards, at least until the junction with the D280 (the Balcon de Belledonne road) a few kilometres from the top of the pass. Very beautiful forest and country landscapes. The alternative, in fact the standard version, is to take the D280 from its beginning, at Saint-Pierre-d'Allevard. The road is then more frequented but just as pleasant, and overall a little less steep.
