In 2022, the road will be resurfaced, the whole stretch from La Motte-Chalancon to past Col de Portail. The road surface is fine, but there is (still) a lot of gravel in the curves.
The climb is very steady and never really hard. Until Chalancon, you have a view on the impressive rocks against which Chalancon seems to be glued. After the hamlet, you go through a narrow gorge and enter an open valley, as if you are suddenly on a completely different road.
