I had just done the Port de Pailhères. in the valley, towards Font-Romeu, it was really hard to drive between the melted asphalt surfaces, it was that hot. If you didn't you were slowed down in your speed. With the busy through traffic, this was not always obvious. I was delighted the moment I turned onto the D17 at Escouloubre to head for the summit. Before you reach the Garavel, however, you have to cross the col de Moulis..... two birds with one stone. Like so many Pyrenean cols, this one is also quite irregular. So it's constantly shifting up and down, and consequently a difficult one to stay in your rhythm. A reasonable runner with some tough sections. Beautiful climb, quiet surroundings and virtually no traffic. After the descent, you arrive at Roquefort de Sault halfway up the Col de Jau. Attention : Just outside the village is a stretch of -15%.
