Made on July 19, 2024 after the Colombiere from Marnaz, this climb I was all alone, no traffic, very good road and climbed with few passages where we can recover until the refuge Spé then gravel road on the plateau Glieres.

Beautiful region around Annecy, Forclaz, Aravis Colombiere but also the other side of the lake is a must, we hadn't more than 1000/2000km in the legs but crucial is a good condition through running/tennis...we had enough with a 5/6pion, 53/42 and 26 max behind....

A very tough climb, once at the top you come to a plateau with a gravel road, scenically
very rewarding. There was also considerable fighting here in the Second World War, there is a monument.
The descent is quite technical and also very beautiful. Highly recommended, but not suitable for beginners.

Done on the 7th of June 2014 just after the col des Annes.
( At the time the road was very bad in places and redone in 2018 for the passage of the Tour de France.)
Then direction the défilé des étroits for the ascent of the col des Glières by its shortest side but with fearsome slopes.
There are 2 access roads from the valley, one from Petit-Bornand at the lowest point, the other by the road to Essert, I took the latter as I came from St Jean de Sixt.
After the bridge the road rises gradually until the small hamlet of Essert, then from the first bend the % become very strong, there will be no more respite except for a false flat at 2km from the car park (end of the ascent for road cyclists) do not let yourself be surprised because the slope starts again at nearly 14% and all rectilinear...Hard, Hard
As a cyclist who likes to climb I had never spent so much time in a dancer, the slope is really terrible, most of it on the 34*30 sometimes at 6-7km/h
Otherwise this pass is not terrible, bad landscape because of a lot of vegetation and not much shade, small narrow road and to reach the real summit by this side you have to climb 2km of a stony path, I didn't dare...
The plateau of Glières is a high place of resistance.
Good walk and be careful

Very nice climb! The plateau at the top is downright spectacular, and certainly doable with a road bike.

Heel mooie beklimming!
