Worth it for the views and the oddly different microclimate and geography at the foot of les dentelles. I would put this in the hidden gem category.
The climb from Baumes de Venise to the pretty village of Suzette takes you up the south side of the best valleys in the area. The view is across the rugged escarpment of the Dentelles de Montmirail with the vineyards of the Beaumes de Venise appellation clinging to the slopes.
The road itself is a steady incline and a low gear job to the summit – especially round the last few hairpins. But the prize is worth it. The view east over Mt Ventoux is spectacular.
I strongly recommend the La Table de Suzette for lunch – check the website as it's not always open.
After lunch enjoy the sweep down into Le Barroux or carry on climbing up the Route de Suzette towards Malaucène. The best view of the Dentelles is just before a wonderful descent.
Beautiful and fun climb in beautiful surroundings. Done with the cycling club on 29 June 2021. Enjoyed it! Nice village too. Water at the Table d'Orientation. Recommended.
Mooie en leuke klim in prachtige omgeving. Met de fietsclub gedaan op 29 juni 2021. Genoten ! Leuk dorpje ook. Water bij de Table d'Orientation. Aanrader.
From Beaume de Venise to Suzette
To do for the pleasure of the eyes with a sequence. Ventoux North face
Ventoux face Nord
I recommend this very rolling and fast climb even if it is long it is affordable.
A good test to see if you are ready to climb the Ventoux Sault
Beautiful climb in beautiful surroundings.
On top of Col de Suzette refill water bottle with fresh water from the pump near the 'col sign'.
In itself, this climb should be doable, but I got it unprepared.
On Thursday 22/7/2021, I did the climb of the Ventoux from Sault, and then descended to Malaucene to cycle back to Beaumes-de-Venise where we stayed.
If you already have the Ventoux in your legs, and you're not expecting a slope, then this is disappointing :)
Approximately 60 km of climbing, descending, beautiful vineyards and beautiful georges.
Beautiful climb, which is also very beautiful from Le Barroux. Nice to drive to the col de la chaine and through Malaucene again a round trip to make.
