A very beautiful ascent in two distinct parts: first the lower part of the Gorges de la Bourne, vertiginous, spectacular and very busy (peak hours to be avoided), then, from the Balme, the champêtreval de Rencurel, much quieter and very pleasant to walk.

Once at the Col de Romeyère, you can extend the climb by about five kilometres to the Col du Mont Noir in the Coulmes forest, but the road is generally in worse condition.
