Passing, smooth and flowing climb, with excellent tarmac all along the way. Enjoyable as part of a broader tour, but in an area full of spectacular climbs there is certainly better.

After the beautiful gorges de la Nesque, what can you say about this climb without any real relief? It's a bit boring. It's a long way up with very little to see. The tarmac is perfect. The descent is very pleasant. There are lots of cars, but the hard shoulder has been renamed a cycle path. You can always take a look at Notre-Dame des abeilles. Three stars for the descent.

Lovely tarmac, both to climb and to descend. This climb is so to speak the motorway from Villes-sur-Auzon to Sault, so there is some traffic. The width of the road makes sure that cyclists and cars will not irritate each other. Can be impossibly hot in summer (the Ventoux is 1000m higher, so it is actually more pleasant there) and there is no shade. In winter, the best col to cycle on if there is snow on the Ventoux. Even then be careful with the temperature: a pleasant 10° degrees down means almost 0° on the summit.
Heerlijk asfalt, zowel om te klimmen als te dalen. Deze klim is bij wijze van spreken de autosnelweg van Villes-sur-Auzon naar Sault, dus er is wel wat verkeer. De breedte van de weg zorgt er wel voor dat fietsers en auto's mekaar niet snel zullen irriteren. Kan onmogelijk warm zijn in de zomer (de Ventoux ligt 1000m hoger, dus daar is het eigenlijk aangenamer) en er is geen schaduw. In de winter de beste col om op te fietsen indien er sneeuw ligt op de Ventoux. Ook dan oppassen voor de temperatuur: een gezellige 10° graden beneden betekent bijna 0° op de top.
The profile is not really what you experience when you take this turn in Villes sur Auzon. Turning right to the Gorges de la Nesque is further to Sault though but gives less stress in your legs.
My ride was in 2014 and I was actually cycling around more than with a goal of going somewhere. In Villes sur Auzon I decided to ride to Sault and then via Chalet Reynard back to Bedoin.
I had already ridden this col from the other side the year before and given the nice road surface, it was not a good idea. The heat, it was almost 33 degrees, killed me and while I was looking around for a way out on the 10％+ strips, I kept on riding.
Once at the top, my water supply was far empty and I turned the bike around and rode back to Bedoin via Mormoiron. The lesson is that you really can't just cycle around in mountainous areas, decide on your route and increase your enjoyment.
Het profiel is niet echt wat je ervaart als je deze afslag in Villes sur Auzon neemt. Rechtsaf naar de Gorges de la Nesque is wel verder naar Sault maar geeft minder stress in je benen.

Ik was deze col al van de andere kant opgereden het jaar ervoor en gezien het mooie wegdek was het wel een idee geen goed idee dus. De warmte, het was bijna 33 graden, deed me de das om en terwijl ik op de 10％+ stroken om me heen keek naar een uitweg bleef ik doorrijden.
Eenmaal boven was mijn watervoorraad ver leeg en heb ik de fiets omgedraaid en ben teruggereden naar Bedoin via Mormoiron. De les is dat je eigenlijk niet zomaar kunt rondfietsen in bergachtig gebied, bepaal je route en verhoog daarmee je plezier.
Large road to the top, I would choose the climb from Flassan and if you come on the main road then left towards Sault, quiet road in that case, typical Provencal col.

We thought we could drive from Mazan to Sault. This bump threw a spanner in the works. It was a tough climb. With few turns you drive up. No shade. Almost 11 km climb, parts of more than 10%. A great pimple. A few days later we did this including Ventoux from Sault. A dream stage. Of course we also did Ventoux from Bedoin once but I found the combination Bedoin and Notre Dame des Abeilles just a bit too spicy. But anyway, about this col: tough climb, great descent with beautiful views by the way.
We dachten vanuit Mazan even rustig naar Sault te rijden. Deze hobbel gooide roet in het water. Het was een zware klim. Met weinig bochten rijd je omhoog. Geen schaduw. Bijna 11 km klim, stukken van meer dan 10 %. Een heerlijke pukkel dus. Een paar dagen later deden we deze inclusief Ventoux vanuit Sault. Een droometappe. Natuurlijk ook Ventoux vanuit Bedoin een keer gedaan maar de combi Bedoin en Notre Dame des Abeilles vond ik net te pittig. Maar goed, omtrent deze col: pittige klim, heerlijke afdaling met overigens prachtig uitzicht.

A very tricky climb due to it constantly going straight up a rather large track.
Not a lot of traffic though.
If it is very hot, this climb is extra heavy.
This climb is also very pleasant to descend; straight ahead.
But also a must to drive to Sault and via the gorges de la nesque return.

Een erg lastige klim doordat hij constant rechtdoor loopt op een nogal grote baan.
Wel niet super veel verkeer.
Als het dan nog eens zeer warm is, wordt deze klim extra zwaar.
Deze klim is overigens zeer plezant om af te dalen; pal rechtdoor.
Maar ook een aanrader om door te rijden naar Sault en via de gorges de la nesque terug te keren.
Nice little hill, especially in the beginning. Nice view of Ventoux and the valley towards Bedoin etc. Nice to get there before the Ventoux.
Mooi colletje, zeker in het begin. Mooi uitzicht op Ventoux en de vallei richting Bedoin etc. Lekker om er in te komen voor de Ventoux.
