Light traffic, lovely road, freshly tarmacked, a short cycle path has been laid from St. Flour (though not all the way to the summit). Little shade, so take care in hot weather. No facilities on the col. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area. A 14 km climb with gradients between 0 and 9 per cent.
Disappointed with this climb. The road is very busy, runs alongside the motorway all the way and is very exposed to the wind. The climb does offer a pretty view of the Monts du Cantal, but the scenery at the top isn't worth the effort between the wind turbines and the A75.
From Saint-Flour, I'd recommend heading east towards Védrines-Saint-Loup, where there are some very fine climbs with magnificent scenery.
