The climb starts in the picturesque village of La Motte, the first kilometres running smoothly. Once higher up, the vegetation reduces and you enter a barren landscape. It can get very hot. It is best to provide drinks. Up to Chalancon, it runs evenly uphill at about 6%. Beyond the mini-village of Chalancon, it is several more km at the same percentages. You then reach the top of the Col de la Croix. You then have a few km to go to the top of the Chamauche. These are slightly steeper still.
