Nice climb, together with the one from the Ayes pass to the village of Les Adrets. Up to this point the road is wide, except at the very beginning, at the exit of Froges, where there is a bottleneck that can be dangerous. Traffic can be heavy at peak times.
After the fork at the exit of Les Adrets, there is only one more kilometre to go, and the road becomes narrower, more rural and less busy.
Once at the top, if you go down the other side, you will first pass through the beautiful village of Hurtières, then you will have the choice to go down either to Tencin in the Grésivaudan valley, or to the village of Theys on the mountainside.
I recommend the undulating descent to Theys, which is very pleasant with splendid views of the Chartreuse massif and the Grésivaudan valley. Once in Theys, it is possible to go to the col des Ayes or the col du Barioz, on the Belledonne balcony road, depending on the direction you want to take.
Belle montée, commune avec celle du col des Ayes jusqu'au village des Adrets. Jusqu'à cet endroit la route est large, sauf au tout début, à la sortie de Froges, où se trouve un goulet d'étranglement nécessitant un surcroît de prudence. La circulation peut être importante aux heures de pointe.
Après la bifurcation à la sortie des Adrets, il ne reste qu'un petit kilomètre à parcourir, et la route devient plus étroite, champêtre et moins fréquentée.
Une fois au sommet, si on descend par l'autre versant, on passera d'abord par le beau village d'Hurtières, ensuite on aura le choix de descendre soit sur Tencin dans la vallée du Grésivaudan, soit sur le village de Theys à flanc de montagne.
Je recommande la descente ondulante sur Theys, qui est très agréable avec de splendides points de vue sur le massif de la Chartreuse et sur la vallée du Grésivaudan. Une fois à Theys, il est possible d'enchaîner avec le col des Ayes ou le col du Barioz, sur la route du balcon de Belledonne, selon la direction qu'on souhaite prendre.
