The climb leads through a not too wide road through the forest, but still you have little shade. It can be hot though. The road surface is reasonable although there is a lot of loose gravel. Dit is een prachtig klimmetje die je vanuit de Alpen komend wat rust geeft aan de beentjes. Geen heftige stijgingspercentages, maar wel gewoon 10 kilometer geleidelijk de hoogte in. De klim voert door een niet al te brede weg door het bos, maar toch heb je weinig schaduw. Heet kan het er wel zijn. Het wegdek is best redelijk al ligt er veel los split. Uitkijken met afdalen dus. Bovenop de pas word je getrakteerd op een fantastisch uitzicht het dal in. Het eerste (ijskoude) waterpunt vind je in Barcillonnette.
