Not a spectacular col, this col BugalAran, but how pleasant it is to cycle in the hills of the Basque country and le Bearn. Peace and quiet, little traffic/tourism, picturesque villages in typical Basque style, no punishment to make some metres here. I did the col from Oloron st Marie -> Esquiule -> Barcus -> the col -> Aramits -> Oloron.
On the col itself, there is little to experience and see. Recommended to go up via Barcus, and down on the other side. Up was quite irregular, from flat to very steep, cluttered and road surface narrow and not always great, while the descent was a lot clearer with a good road surface.
If you're here for the well-known cols (Pierre st Martin, Larrau, Hourcere), you can take this one to ride in just fine.
