In February, there was almost no traffic on the N340, but the views were spectacularly beautiful and the tarmac was perfect. What's more, the gradient is extremely gentle, which also makes the route attractive for rest days. The last section up to Atalaya de Cerro Gordo is poorly tarmaced, but in the middle of the road there is an almost continuous line without any major potholes. So it is certainly very rideable on tyres > 25mm. The descent to La Herradura is again perfectly tarmaced!

The descent towards Nerja is a bit like a downhill slalom to avoid the holes in the tarmac. An adventure, though, and more fun than the tunnel.
De afdaling richting Nerja heeft wel iets weg van een afdaling slalom om de gaten in het asfalt te ontwijken. Wel een avontuur en leuker dan de tunnel.
A drive partly along the main road with heavy traffic. Just before the tunnel, there is the exit and you take the old road. Here the driving is quiet but the road surface is much worse because of no maintenance but oven you have a very nice view.
een rit gedeeltelijk langs de grote weg met druk verkeer. net voor de tunnel is er de afslag en neem je de oude weg. Hier is het rustig rijden maar is het wegdek veel slechter wegens geen onderhoud maar oven heb je wel een zeer mooi uitzicht.
