Done this climb years ago, but rode on to Collada des Roques Blanches from what is given as the end point here. Up to what is given here as the end point, it is a narrow tarmac road with quite a lot of loose gravel, so watch out. Otherwise good and no potholes. Shortly afterwards, it becomes a dirt road where you may still encounter the occasional 4x4. The dirt road is good to ride, but too stony to do on a road bike. I did it myself on a touring bike with racing handlebars and 37mm tyres and that went fine. The last stretch is beautiful with wide views through a barren landscape. Just over, the dirt road splits without much indication. The left branch takes you via a dirt road to Coll de Mentets from where you then have asphalt again.
