A fine climb without excessive gradients. It's ideal as part of a cycle tour of Lac de Madine, as once you reach the top you can enjoy a wide panoramic view of the Meuse coastline. What's more, the American monument links this spot to the First World War remembrance tourism.
Belle montée ne présentant pas de pourcentages excessifs. Elle est idéale dans le cadre d'un tour du lac de Madine en vélo car un fois à son sommet, on bénéficie d'un large panorama sur les côtes de Meuse. De plus, le monument américain rattache ce lieu au tourisme de mémoire de la Première Guerre mondiale.
One of the highlights of the region and the best thing is: you can go there by bike. Butte de Montsec is a grandiose monument with a beautiful marble construction, in which a relief map explains the history of the area. The hill on which all this stands can be seen from far away.
The climb itself is a pure runner with great tarmac, and it is wide enough for the relatively heavy traffic that drives up and down it. Coming from the south-east, you first wind your way for about a kilometre towards the actual foot of the climb, at the intersection of 3 roads where the Butte is signposted. From there, it is about 1.5 kilometres with a continuous 6.0-6.5％ rise to the summit (the 8％ peak is not correct). If you choose one pace that you can maintain for at least 5 minutes, you will get to the top just fine, provided that you have not already pulled yourself apart before the actual climb begins. However, do not underestimate the heat either. The view both from and to the Butte de Montsec when you reach the top is very rewarding.

Butte de Montsec is een grandioos monument met een prachtige marmeren constructie, waarbinnen een reliëfkaart je uitlegt over de historie van het gebied. De heuvel waar dit alles op staat, is vanuit de wijde omgeving te herkennen.
De klim zelf is een pure loper met geweldig asfalt, en het is breed genoeg voor het relatief vele verkeer dat hier op en af rijdt. Komend vanuit het zuidoosten slinger je eerst een kilometer glooiend richting de werkelijke voet van de klim, op het kruispunt van 3 wegen waar de Butte wordt aangegeven. Vanaf daar is het ca. 1.5 kilometer met continu 6.0-6.5％ stijging tot aan de top (de uitschieter van 8％ klopt niet). Als je 1 tempo kiest dat je minstens 5 minuten vast kan houden, dan kom je prima boven, mits je jezelf niet al uit elkaar hebt getrokken voordat de werkelijke klim begint. Onderschat de hitte echter ook niet. Het uitzicht zowel vanaf als naar de Butte de Montsec wanneer je boven geraakt, geeft veel voldoening.
