Departed from Elbingerode via Drei Annen Hohne. Virtually no traffic here. From Schierke onwards it is completely car-free.
It is a desolate area though with all that dead forest.
The descent is freezing cold and there is also some loose gravel, so be careful.
Back via Elend. More car traffic here.

Vertrokken ui Elbingerode via Drei Annen Hohne. Hier vrijwel geen verkeer. Vanaf Schierke is het helemaal autovrij.
Het is wel een troosteloze omgeving met al dat dooie bos.
Afdaling stervenskoud en er ligt ook nog wel wat los grind dus uitkijken.
Terug via Elend. Hier wel meer autoverkeer.

To be honest; I took a slightly different route than this one, but its still very comparable. The roads in the brocken nature reserve are very good, and cars are forbidden in the area so it was great for cyclists. However, I do want to give 1 major warning; make sure you have a dry (and waterproof) piece of clothing with you for the descent. The peak is so moist that it feels like rain and the average temperature is 2,9 degrees celsius. In other words; if you don't warm yourself by cycling (as you would on the climb), it is a very very cold experience (which isnt ideal for decending).
