13 km without (almost) any respite! the last 2 in particular, we have time to see them pass (and we remember them well!). One is clearly pushed in its retrenchments!

To make the climb even harder, go straight on at the first hairpin bend, shortly after the first kilometre (be careful when crossing the road) and climb to Saint-Jean-le-Vieux and then to the D280 (route du Balcon de Belledonne) to reach Les Roussets and the itinerary presented here. This variant is more or less the same length but has a much more irregular profile... and therefore very steep in places.

This climb is very popular with local cyclists (and completely unknown to outsiders ;-)). Most of the cyclists stop at the Freydières lake to have a drink or a delicacy like blueberry pie in one of the restaurants, and thus save themselves the last km which presents real walls. It must be said that the cul-de-sac at the end of the road is not very attractive.
