For the ridge, this is one of the finer climbs. It starts quietly in the village with some annoying thresholds, but once you are out of the residential area, you can test your legs properly.
Voor de heuvelrug is dit een van de fijnere klimmen. Het begint rustig in het dorpje met wat vervelende drempels, maar zodra je uit de woonwijk bent, kan je goed je benen testen.
Fun to do if you cycle past anyway, but definitely not worth a detour. descent if you go up via this side is lovely though!

New review because of the pictures. Start is still not really pleasant because busy (car parks) and lots of thresholds. Descending here is no fun either. The turnaround once you have left the built-up area could hardly be greater as it suddenly becomes a very nice road through beautiful surroundings. The highest point is a bit difficult to determine as there is always another one to follow. The "Amerongse Berg" sign (only readable from the other side) is even a bit further, so only after the climb.
Nieuwe recensie vanwege de foto’s. Begin is nog steeds niet echt aangenaam want druk (parkeerplaatsen) en veel drempels. Ook hier afdalen is geen pretje. De omslag als je de bebouwde kom uit bent kan bijna niet groter zijn want dan wordt het ineens een heel leuke weg door een mooie omgeving. Het hoogste punt is wat lastig te bepalen want er volgt steeds nog een nieuwe. Het bord “Amerongse Berg” (alleen vanaf de andere kant te lezen) staat zelfs nog wat verder, dus pas na de klim.
The start is not very nice because of the speed bumps in the village, but after that, this is definitely a nice little climb to cycle at a good pace. Because of the varying percentages, it feels a bit more dynamic than the north side. A different experience, but not less fun.
Het begin is vanwege de drempels in het dorp niet heel fijn te noemen, maar daarna wordt dit zeker wel een fijn klimmetje om op een goed tempo op te fietsen. Door de wisselende percentages voelt hij wat dynamischer aan dan de noordzijde. Een andere ervaring, maar geen minder leuke.
A nice climb to ride on the Heuvelrug. Technically not much of a challenge but once you're out of the village the scenery becomes nice.
Aardig klimmertje om de Heuvelrug op te rijden. Technisch niet veel uitdaging maar als je het dorp uit bent wordt de omgeving wel leuk.
The disadvantage of this climb/descent is that you are in Amerongen with those wretched little roads from the right (which all have priority) and even more annoying are the barriers which are installed, where you almost as an accomplished cyclist must jump over. Once in the forest, you can stomp your feet and go up on the big slab. The descent is well organized so you can keep your speed.
Het nadeel van deze klim/afdaling is dat je in Amerongen met die ellendige weggetjes van rechts(die allemaal voorrang hebben) zit en nog vervelender zijn de drempels die zijn aangebracht, waar je bijna als een volleerd veldrijder over moet springen. Eenmaal in het bos kun je lekker stoempen en op de grote plaat naar boven. De afdaling is goed overzichtelijk zodat je flink vaart kan houden.
This climb is especially as a descent nothing. You must brake a lot because you come pretty quickly in the center of Amerongen. For cyclists who mainly want to enjoy speed (the heavy north side descends much nicer) and do not want to suffer too much, this is the best choice if you are in the neighborhood of Amerongen.
Deze klim is vooral als afdaling niks aan. Je moet veel remmen omdat je vrij snel in het centrum van Amerongen komt. Voor fietsers die vooral lekker willen genieten van snelheid (de zware noordkant daalt veel mooier) en niet te veel willen afzien is dit de beste keuze als je in de buurt van Amerongen bent.
This way you pop the climb for two reasons:
- you can do everything on the big blade and on the power
- the descent is much more fun if you come from the south.
Otherwise not much special as a climb, but to be honest there is not much more to find on the ridge.

Verder weinig speciaal als klim, maar eerlijk gezegd is er op de heuvelrug ook weer niet heel veel heftigers te vinden.
